Local Events

There is always something happening in Onondaga County. From music festivals to the New York State Fair, there are many local events year round including: 

  • Syracuse JazzFest is the Northeast’s largest free jazz festival, attracting 80,000 music fans to Syracuse. The JazzFest features internationally and nationally known artists such as Ray Charles, Natalie Cole, and Aretha Franklin as well as regional and local performers.
  • Other annual music festivals include the NYS Blues Fest, Northeast Jazz and Wine Festival, and the Empire Brewfest.

  • The Syracuse International Film Festival embraces a truly international community by presenting contemporary, international film for year-round special events and especially during festival days. The Festival seeks films with true artistic merit, regardless of length, genre or form and has begun to provide a significant showcase for established and emerging filmmakers from around the world.

  • Ethnic Festivals held in Clinton Square in the heart of downtown Syracuse including the La Festa Italiana, Irish Festival, Oktoberfest, Polish Festival, Jewish Music and Cultural Festival, Bavarian Festival, Latino-American Festival, and many more.
  • Balloonfest - an annual event at Jamesville Beach Park attracts ballooning enthusiasts from all over Central New York to this multi-day event.
  • Taste of Syracuse – Central New York’s largest festival attracting over 150,000 people, features over 140 different vendors and restaurants, wines from New York State and three stages of live music.

  • New York State Fair - Syracuse is home to the New York State Fairgrounds. The New York State Fair is the longest running state fair in the country and annually attracts nearly one million people from across the Northeast.
